Joel McHale said that being a part of “The X-Files” revival “was a dream come true.”

Joel McHale couldn’t believe at first that people behind “The X-Files” wanted him to play a role in the upcoming limited series revival of the Fox series.

“Believe me, I thought it was a prank when my agents first called,” the 43-year-old actor told Esquire in a recent interview.

“I think I have seen every episode,” added the “Community” actor. “At one point, someone mentioned that I was a fan and David Duchovny was standing there and he said, ‘Are you a fan?’ and I said, ‘Yes, yes I am, Mr. Duchovny. Please don’t be mad. You guys have no idea how big of a fan I was.’ And they were like, ‘Ok.'”

“They were so cool about it because I was like, ‘I know you’re a huge ‘Soup’ fan, right dude?” added McHale, who hosts the E! show that focuses on recaps of various popular culture and television moments every week.

“It was still a dream come true,” he said of being cast on “The X-Files” revival.

McHale plays Tad O’Malley, a conservative talk show host who asks [Fox] Mulder (Duchovny) and [Dana] Scully (Gillian Anderson) to open a new investigation by introducing them to supposed alien abductee Sveta (Annet Mahendru), according to Digital Spy.

Aside from McHale, Duchovny, Anderson and Mahendru, “The X-Files” revival also stars Mitch Pileggi as the FBI’s assistant director Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man.

Filming for the six-episode revival series began on June 8 in Vancouver, Canada and will reportedly last until Aug. 22.

“The X-Files” will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 24, right after the NFL’s NFC championship game. It will then move to Monday nights starting on Jan. 25 and continue over the next four weeks.
